Glopolis is a non-partisan, non-governmental organization which focuses on the analysis of economic globalization, trade, development, agriculture and climate change.

EuropAfrica: Towards Food Sovereignty

 As of January 2011 Glopolis is a partner in the three year project titled “EuropAfrica: Towards Food Sovereignty”. Together with 7 other partners from Belgium, the United Kingdom, Italy, Kenya, Cameroon, and Burkina Faso, Glopolis will ensure that EU policies are coherent with the objective of supporting sustainable and equitable agricultural development and food security for African small-scale farmers. The project is co-funded by the European Union.

Duration: 2011 – 2013

Main objectives:

  • Promote broader public support for EC engagement in African agriculture in favour of smallholder family-based farming and food security
  • Increase awareness about issues and opportunities in the African region and common interests between African and European small scale food providers and consumers
  • Advocate that the findings of European and African CSOs are taken into account in official policies and programmes impacting on African agriculture

Main activities and outcomes:

  • Analyses and case studies on relevant European policies impacting on African agriculture
  • Workshops supporting dialogue and exchange between European civil society organisations and African farmer organisations to develop alliances and synergetic advocacy platforms
  • Workshops with decision makers
  • Video documentary, media articles, and newspapers supplements to raise awareness of EU citizens regarding the relations between EU policies and African food security
  • Seminars for university students
  • Annual national seminars aiming at informing and building capacities of civil society organisations 
  • Roundtables for policy and decision makers and stakeholders aiming at moving the policy agenda and processes
  • Updates on Glopolis website
