Glopolis is a non-partisan, non-governmental organization which focuses on the analysis of economic globalization, trade, development, agriculture and climate change.
Each year on 16th October the World Food Day is celebrated and for this occasion Glopolis is organising the 1st International Documentary Film Festival AlimenTerre in Prague.
This festival has a three year history beyond the borders of the Czech Republic – in Belgium, France, Togo, and Benin. The films remind the Czech public that over a billion people around the planet suffer chronic hunger and that paradoxically those who stand at the beginning of the food chain – small-scale farmers – are those who suffer the most.
AlimenTerre not only introduces some of the pitfalls of food production worldwide, but it also brings possible ways to fight these problems and to promote more sustainable modes of agriculture and food production. The festival also gives space to small-scale farmers to talk about the problems they encounter and puts their stories into the global perspective of food production.
Each screening will be followed by an audience discussion with the directors of the films, experts in the given fields or representatives from developing countries.
