New Development Concepts

The report offers no ready-made solutions, no magic bullet or grand plan, either. Instead, the authors are trying to bring a closer, but critical look at the recent ‘alternatives’ discourses that seem to be most moving and shaking the field of development policy. Many of the concepts that are central to our development policy work may often become a newspeak, taken for granted. Both government officials and development activists might forget to keep questioning, or further develop, their real meaning. So they are explained here again, reflected and scrutinized against the backdrop of both the older and fresher critique of the global economy as well as from the perspective of civil society organizations in the two new member states of the EU. Our goal is to contribute to the reflection of multiple global crises, of the inter-linkages among them, and to rethinking the way we view development.
