Glopolis is a non-partisan, non-governmental organization which focuses on the analysis of economic globalization, trade, development, agriculture and climate change.
On 7th April 2009 organized Glopolis in cooperation with two other European NGOs: SOS Faim Belgium and CFSI France and their 4 African partners: Bassiaka Dao (CPF-Burkina Faso), Abdou Hima (PFPN-Niger), Souleymane Keita (CNOP-Mali), Nadjirou Sall (FONGS-Sénégal) a lunch debate as a side event of the official EU ACP JPA, in the premises of the JPA.
The debate opened a direct advocacy space for the African representatives of farmer organizations who had the opportunity to address their message to a large constituency of MEPs and African MPs at once. They presented the current crisis situation in Western Africa, the causes and their demands for supporting family farming, good governance and fair trade. They also advocated for direct action during the following sessions of the JPA. Despite other workshops running at the same time, the debate attracted a large number of participants (about 60). Following this workshop, organizers and African farmers released a communiqué which was distributed to the MEPs and African MPs before they voted on the urgency resolution on the food crisis.
