Biofuels have recently become a popular issue. Indeed, at first they seemed to provide a solution to two major global challenges of our time: the climate and energy crises. With increasingly ambitious goals of biofuel use in transport being formulated, especially in the developed countries, and plans to grow the necessary commodities being implemented on a large scale, serious doubts have arisen concerning the benefit of biofuels for ensuring energy security and mitigating climate change. Moreover, it has become clear that the biofuel boom has been at the origin of another global challenge: the food crisis.
